The offer provides that all principals are equal in pay with secondary core principles on their basic wage components (rolling, staff and decile payments) and that, each year, 3% of wage increases must be paid for three years. Secondary governments voted to accept the government`s latest salary offer. Primary schools in New Zealand are of different sizes. The smallest school has two pupils and the largest has more than 1,200. Just over a quarter of primary schools in 1953 had fewer than 100 students. The salaries of the principals are paid during the 14 days and the gross salary for a full remuneration period is calculated at 14/365ths of the annual rate. For fragmentary periods, the calculation is the number of days due multiplied by the annual rate and divided by 365. Gross salary includes all salaries and allowances (paid on a temporary and regular basis). Education Minister Iona Holsted said she was pleased that principals had voted in favour of settling scores. Faced with the resulting threat to headteachers, who threaten to improve working conditions and pay parities for headteachers, the offer offers most headteachers a cumulative pay increase of about 11 per cent.

Starting January 28, 2020, a $300,000-a-year professional development fund will be created for capital. 5.1.1 The purpose of this clause is to maintain a uniform remuneration system for headteachers in the public sector and the integrated compulsory education sector. The single compensation system applies to the compensation components of awarding entities, based on roles, deciles and personnel. In addition to the salary component based on the school role mentioned in point 5.2.2, the salary of headteachers includes the staff-based wage component calculated according to the following formula: the increase will be significantly higher for the heads of schools in our smaller schools (with 50 children or less). The offer increases the salary of these headteachers to match the rate of pay of headteachers who run schools with 100 or fewer students. This was the first offer made by the main unions – Secondary Principals` Association NZ (SPANZ), Post Primary Teachers` Association (PPTA) and New Zealand Secondary Principals` Council (NZSPC) – earlier this month. As a result, the minimum wage for a primary school principal will be $104,000 by August 2021, an increase of more than $16,500. Owairoa Primary School Principal Alan McIntyre confirmed: “With regard to the offer of the main collective agreement, principals are meeting this week across the country to discuss and vote on the offer.” All NZEI clients will each receive a one-time lump sum of $1,500 (in proportion to principal workers working part-time). If you want a printed copy of this agreement, we advise you to download the following PDF version. The agreement will continue to be offered to the principals.

There are about 1,950 primary principles. The second core capital collective agreement expires on September 1, 2022. Key officials will vote on the offer of collective agreements from August 15 to 19. Vaughan Couillault, vice-president of the Secondary Principals` Association, said the agreement was “strongly supported by major secondary obligators across the country.”
